Shia Yih Yiing further explores themes initially shown in her 2004 exhibition, wOm(b), at the Petronas Gallery, KL, Malaysia.
In Vessels of Art, which opens at The Private Gallery on June 9, 2006, Shia explores the relationships between vessels, whether animate or inanimate, and symbolism/design.
These vessels form the backdrop for intricate designs, which delightfully reveal themselves with longer viewing. The symbols are the ‘equipment’ of the various vessels, the artist and will perhaps, be adopted by the viewer.
This small and high quality exhibition of 14 canvas works, reflects Shia’s continuing aesthetic and cerebral explorations and her increased mastery of technique which enable her to effectively relate the discoveries.
