EXHIBITIONS

Island of Art:
December 14, 2006 - January 31, 2007

ISLAND OF ART marks the 2006 exhibition of Sri Lankan contemporary Art in Malaysia and features works in various mediums, by Druvinka, Nelun Harasgama, Josephine Balakrishnan, Leela Bandaranaike Peries, Shehan Madawela and auction favourite, George Keyt.

Druvinka’s collage works on canvas using bamboo paper and tempera, has impressed a loyal and expanding international collector base.  She studied at Santiniketan and is a full time artist.  She has been exhibiting for more than 15 years

Leela Bandaranaike Peries is a graduate of the Camberwell School of Art (UK) and has been passionately practicing her art, bronze sculptures, for decades.  She works in her private compound and produces singular works, primarily capturing rural and local scenes.

Balakrishnan’s self styled “Trop Pop” combines the bright colours of tropical weather with pop art style. She has individualised this style with unique subject matter that reflects her well traveled background.

Keyt, now deceased, is a familiar name to  collectors of South Asian Art.  His works continue to be regularly auctioned by the major houses.  He is undoubtedly Sri Lanka’s most well known artist and his works are part of numerous museum collections, including the Victoria & Albert, UK, permanent collection.

Works by some of these  artists will be shown during New York’s Asian Art week in March 2007 and also in a noncommercial show at the famous Lamont Gallery in New Hampshire (USA) in April 2007.

Viewing by appointment only.
